What magnets do in generators—and why a magnet alone is not an endless energy source.

Magnets are useful—but they are not fuel

Magnets are fundamental components in many motors and generators. Relative motion between magnetic fields and conductors can induce electric current, but a generator still requires mechanical energy input. The magnetic field participates in conversion; it does not provide an endless net energy source by itself.

Why this matters for DIY projects

When evaluating a magnet-based generator claim, trace every energy input and every conversion loss. Motors, bearings, gearing, alternators, batteries and inverters all affect the energy balance.

Measure instead of assuming

A useful experiment records electrical input, mechanical conditions and usable electrical output over time with appropriate instruments and safety controls.
